Mitt Romney's goal for Donald Trump fundraiser: Raise $2 million

Mitt Romney can't even stand up to Donald Trump (Steve Marcus/Reuters) Here's a pretty good example of why Mitt Romney's experience at Bain Capital hasn't prepared him for the presidency: when he looked at doing a $2 million fundraiser with Donald Trump in Las Vegas, the thing that he thought was relevant was the money he'd raise, not the fact that he'd be standing side-by-side with the biggest birther conspiracy theorist of all.

A fundraiser in las Vegas on May 29 for presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney is designed to raise $2 million at the Trump International Hotel, according to internal campaign documents, which also reveal how one of the campaign plans to get to 270 electoral votes -- a pitch to entice donors for the event.

According to Jon Ralston's report, as of May 8, $675,000 had already been pledged. By now, the fundraiser's haul has certainly soared well beyond that, so Romney is looking at some serious coin from tonight's event. But just because Romney can pick up a lot of money at the event doesn't mean he should stand on stage with one of the biggest political clowns there is.

If Romney's campaign were a for-profit enterprise'like Bain Capital, or NBC'standing with Trump might make sense. The bottom-line is the bottom-line. But Mitt Romney isn't running to be America's CEO, and the country doesn't need a president whose only concern is whether he makes a profit or a loss. Romney's decision to campaign with Trump is a perfect illustration of why his pledge to govern like a dollars and cents businessman isn't what America needs.
