GOP Madness, Quarterfinals, Match 1

Four days this week, four contests in the quarterfinals, as we work toward crowning the victor (or is it loser?) from the GOP primary season. The bracket is here.

1. GOP DEBATE AUDIENCE BOOS GAY SOLDIER

Original writeup here.

American servicemember says he's gay, and the conservative audience boos. That was bad enough. But making matters worse, not a single one of the presidential candidates on stage condemned this blatant disrespect. And to top if all off? None of the candidates thanked the soldier for his service to the nation, denying him the most basic courtesy given to our men and women in uniform.

In their minds, soldiers only have worth when they're dying for the latest conservative pet war.

2. FOR EVERY WOMAN CAIN HARASSED, THERE ARE THOUSANDS HE DIDN'T

"I value my character and my integrity more than anything else. And for every one person that comes forward with a false accusation, there are probably, there are thousands who would say none of that sort of activity ever came from Herman Cain."
Original writeup here.

Cain just harassed one out of every 2-3,000 women, which was totally cool and acceptable to conservative voters who cheered wildly at his explanation.

Rick Perry should've learned a lesson there: "For every child of undocumented immigrants I helped go to college, there were thousands of low-income Texans that I cut from health care programs!"

Then again, maybe it wouldn't have worked. Helping kids go to school is a far bigger sin for conservatives than sexually harassing any woman.
