Today in Daily Kos Radio

Daily Kos Radio Logo No Today in Congress update this morning, because there's no today in Congress. They're gone for the weekend.

But that doesn't mean there won't be a Daily Kos Radio show, from 9-11 EDT this morning. And the fact that Congress won't be in session gives me a chance to talk a little more about the show.

It's a casual two hours in the morning, and yes, we're archiving it with an eye toward making it available as a podcast. Coming soon! Really! We have Daily Kos and other netroots-friendly guests dropping by from time to time, like Joan McCarter and Adam Bonin so far this week, plus Laura Clawson in our first hour today. Most days this week, I've been joined by Armando Llorens, who hardly ever yells at anyone on the air at all. And when we were at Netroots Nation two weeks ago, well, we had everyone and their mother on with us.

Sometimes it's guests and special, hot news topics they cover. Sometimes it's the funniest thing I've read on Twitter that day. And sometimes, it's an hour-long guided tour through Congressional procedure about which literally tens of people have said, "That wasn't so bad. I still have lots to live for, even though I'll never get that hour back."

We're working on ways to make the medium a part of the Daily Kos experience. And as we develop the skills and technical mastery to do it, that'll mean a heightened interactivity with the audience (since that's always what Daily Kos has been about). It'll also mean additional commentary from our writers and editors about what you've been reading on the site, and once in a while, about things yet to come. Sneak previews, if you will (and you know you will), of upcoming stories and posts. And more and better ways to participate in the Daily Kos community.

We've got some interesting ideas in mind, and the nature of our community and the technology we use may just give us a chance to undo radio'especially Internet radio'as we know it, and that's always an exciting prospect. But first, we've got to get you to listen. So try this:

The Daily Kos Radio Player

...and help us get this thing of the ground.

Speaking of which, now's a good time to acknowledge some of the people who helped us make this initial effort happen: the community's own Netroots Radio group. Take a peek below the fold for a run-down on just which of your fellow Kossacks they are, and a little biographical background on each of them. And be sure to check their broadcasts out, too. Same bat-channel, but, er... different bat-time.
