Mitt Romney doubles down: Refighting the health care battle now his top priority

Now that the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of Obamacare, you might think that Mitt Romney would finally realize that it's time to move on'especially since he's repeatedly said the main difference between Romneycare and Obamacare is that the latter was unconstitutional.

But as reasonable as it would be to expect Romney to stand down, if that's what you thought would happen, you were wrong. In his campaign's newest video, Romney not only sticks to his promise to repeal Obamacare, but now pledges to make it his top priority'his very first job on his very first day in office.

VOICEOVER: The Supreme Court may have made their decision, but the American people haven't.

ROMNEY: Make sure the next president of the United States repeals Obamacare and replaces Obamacare.

VOICEOVER: Day one. Job one. Repeal Obamacare.

Maybe Romney thinks that this is an easy way to appease his base, but this isn't your typical pander: Romney is saying this is his first and foremost priority'before he does anything else, he'll repeal Obamacare. Maybe he's lying, but unless he repudiates this video, it's crystal clear that his number one pledge has nothing to do with growing the economy or adding jobs'it's repealing health care reform.

The Obama campaign should hammer Romney over this pledge. President Obama laid the groundwork yesterday in his brilliant statement after the court's ruling. It's the perfect contrast for the campaign: now that the Supreme Court has spoken, President Obama wants to move forward, not just continuing to implement the law, but to focus our national energy on accelerating the economic recovery, creating more good jobs, and strengthening the middle class. Romney, meanwhile, is stuck in the past. His priority isn't to move the country forward: his priority is to take us backward. And that's a winning message.
