Mitt Romney's campaign this morning, trying to turn Claire McCaskill's decision to forego this year's Democratic convention into a national scandal:
' @ZekeJMiller via TweetDeck And then this afternoon, this news about Heather Wilson, the great Republican hope for New Mexico, comes out:
Heather Wilson Will Skip Republican National Convention http://t.co/...
' @FixAaron via bitly So maybe the Romney email headline should have been:
RUINATION! REPUBLICANS REBEL FROM ROMNEY RNC!Or maybe they could have just admitted the truth: Candidates from both parties are skipping their conventions, and most of them are doing it because they don't think going to a national convention three months before an election is a wise use of their time. They think the best way to win is to stay home. And for those that make that decision, they are probably right. Moreover, it's nothing new: The same thing happened in 2008.
But like a moth to flame, the Romney campaign couldn't resist taking a nonissue and trying to spin it out of control. Unfortunately for them they seem to be having about as much luck as they did with their Fenway fumble yesterday. On the bright side, as silly as this makes them look, it's nowhere near the humiliation of having revived the outsourcing story by demanding a retracting from the Washington Post in a private meeting'and having their demand summarily dismissed.
