We're going to be here through the November election, and we're going to be here to win.You gotta love the fact that Akin utterly fucked with his own party on an already-unhappy afternoon for the GOP, what with Mitt Romney going birther and inducing a collective facepalm from the Republican establishment. Akin held out the hope that perhaps he might offer his fellow travelers a spot of good news, but nope! He's here to stay. Former Missouri state Sen. Jeff Smith said the other day of Akin that "God told him to run and it may take God to tell him to quit," so I'm guessing the Big Guy Upstairs simply hasn't texted the congressman back yet.
The events of the past week were extraordinary to watch; we may never see something like that again. Fortunately, as long as his resolve remains firm, the Missouri GOP won't have the chance to replace Akin with someone less damaged (but assuredly no less crazy). You know Sen. McCaskill is doing a happy dance right now'as are we all. God bless you'and I really do mean that'Rep. Akin!
