Isaac beating up on Louisiana

Hurricane Isaac is seen churning in the Gulf of Mexico after making landfall on the Louisiana coast in this NASA handout satellite image taken on August 29, 2012. IT IS DISTRIBUTED, EXACTLY AS RECEIVED BY REUTERS, AS A SERVICE TO CLIENTS Hurricane Isaac reluctantly crawled onto land Tuesday afternoon through early Wednesday morning, intensifying virtually every step of the way. Had the storm spent just another few hours over warm water, it could have well hit as a major hurricane. Instead, Isaac hit as a strong Category 1 and is beginning to show signs of weakening. There will almost certainly be widespread wind and flood damage, this is a large storm with an impressive wind-field and storm surge for its category, but so far there is reason to be hopeful the damage will be manageable. See also Fishoutofwater's diary on this very topic.

Either way though, it's going to be a very long day for our friends in the region, probably lots of power and utility issues that could affect some residents for days after the storm passes. There is live discussion, links and other info, at edrie's and Jesselyn's diaries.
