John Boehner opposes marriage equality, doesn't want to talk about it

Speaker John Boehner reacts to President Obama's embrace of marriage equality:

BOEHNER: I think he made his position very clear. I've always believed marriage was between a man and a woman. But Republicans here on Capitol Hill are focused in on the economy."

WILLIS: Some people are now talking about a constitutional amdt to ban gay marriage. What do you make of that?

BOEHNER: You know, I haven't really seen this proposal. All I know is that this is a very controversial issue in our country, but most people believe marriage is a union of a man and woman. But again, our focus here on The Hill is on the economy.

It's obvious that Boehner can see the writing on the wall: He knows he can't change his position, but he also knows the ground is shifting quickly from under his feet, and this is the last thing he wants to talk about. We're not in 2004 anymore.
