Daily Kos Elections Polling Wrap: Final pre-primary numbers in North Carolina

With several potentially intriguing downballot primaries on the docket for Tuesday, plus the expected post-primary lull at the top of the ballot, the focus of the Wrap today takes on a distinctly non-presidential flavor.

Sure, there is still some polling on the battle for the White House between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. And there are a handful of analytical points that deserve to be made: the national polling (to say nothing of the subnational and semiregular "Swing States" poll by Gallup) continues to show an ebb in support for the president, yet the state polls remain more or less immune to that tightening, with a handful of exceptions.

But, today, the attention heads down the ballot, especially with new polling on a couple of races which will be settled by the time the sun rises on Wednesday.

With that, here are the numbers:

PRESIDENTIAL GENERAL ELECTION TRIAL HEATS:

NATIONAL (Gallup Tracking): Romney d. Obama (46-45)

NATIONAL (Politico/GWU/Battleground): Romney d. Obama (48-47)

NATIONAL (Rasmussen Tracking): Romney d. Obama (47-45)

NATIONAL (TIPP for Investors Business Daily/Christian Science Monitor): Obama d. Romney (46-43)

"SWING STATES" (Gallup): Obama d. Romney (47-45)

DOWNBALLOT POLLING:
NE-SEN--R (We Ask America): Jon Bruning 42, Deb Fischer 26, Don Stenberg 23, Pat Flynn 4, Sharyn Elander 3, Spencer Zimmerman 2

NORTH CAROLINA AMENDMENT ONE (PPP): Yes 55, No 39

NC-GOV--D (PPP): Walter Dalton 34, Bob Etheridge 29, Gary Dunn 4, Bill Faison 4, Gardenia Henley 4, Bruce Blackmon 2

NC-GOV--R (PPP): Pat McCrory 70, Scott Jones 3, Jim Harney 2, Jim Mahan 2, Paul Wright 2, Charles Kenneth Moss 1

A few thoughts, as always, await you just past the jump...
