New polling shows Darcy Burner with slim lead in primary

Darcy Burner Darcy Burner (Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung/Wikimedia Commons) Daily Kos all-star Darcy Burner is running strong to make her third try for Congress, in the newly redistricted 1st district of Washington. But she has a hurdle: a competitive primary with a ton of candidates. Two of those candidates in turn have a ton of money to burn.

Suzane DelBene has loaned herself more than $1 million for the primary. Another candidate, Laura Ruderman, has had the totally uncoordinated-by-the-campaign advantage of her mother's Super PAC funding attacks against the other candidates. Mom's first target was DelBene, putting Ruderman in the position of telling mom to back off. Now mom has gone after Darcy.

But it's DelBene's money that is giving her the biggest boost in the race. Darcy had led substantially in SUSA polling in early June, with 19 percent in the top-two polling to Ruderman's 6 percent and DelBene's 4. (The poll reflected the primary, in which the top two vote-getters'regardless of party'go on to the general.) The polling has tightened up considerably, with two new polls released this week. One, from local consulting group Strategies360, has Darcy and DelBene neck-and-neck, with Burner at 12 and DelBenes at 11.

Goal ThermometerThe second, done for Democracy for America by PPP, gives Burner a four-point lead over DelBene, 17 percent to 14. A third, sort of goofy poll from another in the field, Steve Hobbs, has Burner, Hobbs, and DelBene at 13 percent, 12 percent, and 11 percent respectively. Hobbs hasn't polled anywhere near that high in any other poll, so this internal poll is a little on the questionable side.

Anyway you slice it, the race has tightened for Burner and she's got some very well-funded opponents to fend off in the three weeks of mail-in balloting that started this week. We need to help her get her message out to district voters. Just $3 of online advertising can reach as many 25 Democratic-leaning primary voters. Your $3 could reach 25 primary voters and help make the difference in this primary.

This is our chance to send one of us to Congress. Please help.
