"I have the same view on marriage that I had when I was governor,' Romney said. 'I believe marriage is a relationship between a man and a woman."... at least, he hasn't ever supported it since running for office, for Pete's sake. So he's always been wrong, he boasts. But as for that flip-flopping rascal named Barack Obama? He added, 'This is a very tender and sensitive topic, as are many social issues, but I have the same view that I've had since running for office.'
Romney was then asked whether he thinks Obama has changed his position. He didn't seem eager to try to paint Obama as a flip flopper. While it is true that President Obama changed his position today, he changed it in the right direction. Mitt Romney, on the other hand, has moved backwards on gay and lesbian rights. Here's what he told Log Cabin Republicans in 1994:'I believe that based upon the interview that he gave today, he had changed his view, but you're a better judge of that than I,' Romney said.
I am more convinced than ever before that as we seek to establish full equality for America's gay and lesbian citizens, I will provide more effective leadership than my opponent. [...] We must make equality for gays and lesbians a mainstream concern.Of course, he was running for office in Massachusetts back then. And now he's moved his position "forward" ... forward in reverse. At least now we know why his Super PAC calls itself Restore Our Future.
