Rush Limbaugh: Jobless 'are not suffering as unemployed people in the past did,' thanks to Obama

Rush Limbaugh has a warning for Mitt Romney: High unemployment alone is not going to be enough to tip the election Romney's way. Why is that? Let's see if we can follow Limbaugh's logic. Basically, he thinks that America's safety net is just too strong, and that this benefits Barack Obama, the "architect" of the fact that "the so-called victims of the unemployment circumstance in this country are not suffering as unemployed people in the past did."

Yup. According to Limbaugh, unemployed people have it so easy that they just don't care about finding jobs. Why, after all, would people care about having jobs when "for a whole heck of a lot of people whose expectations for themselves are not very high, you have food, you have a car, a cell phone, and a TV, and you're set"? Limbaugh isn't blaming these people, mind you, he's just saying that "it's a new reality," created by Obama, in which people don't care. Not like back when he was on unemployment in the 1970s and it was a real stigma.

Limbaugh's important point, the reason he wants Mitt Romney to think about all this, is that this new reality has political ramifications:

We have 48 million Americans, 47 million on food stamps and the regime is advertising for more, we have 47, 48 percent who pay no income taxes. We have 3 million more off the unemployment rolls and on the disability rolls, and they all vote.

Like the notion that people are kicked back all comfortable at home not worried about unemployment as long as they have their food stamps and their cell phones, that last clause is a blatant falsehood: We know that voter turnout rises with income, which means people on food stamps, people who don't earn enough to pay federal income taxes, and people on disability vote at relatively low levels. But Limbaugh needs his listeners not to know that, because if they know that, they won't make the leap with him to the idea that Obama set it up this way. That Obama, the "architect," set it up so that all these people don't care that they're unemployed because the government is keeping them adequately comfortable ... and so they're all going to vote for him.
