Mitt Romney's post-primary bounce

With the GOP primary contest over, Mitt Romney has enjoyed the usual post-primary victory headlines and consolidation in his base as conservatives begin pretending to like their nominee.

The result is a tightening of national poll numbers:

Of course, we don't have a national election, but the national numbers help inform the media narratives. And national numbers can be a leading indicator of shifts in the states (definitely the case in the GOP primary).

We'll obviously keep an eye on the battleground state polling in the coming weeks to see if there's any tightening in Obama's early big lead. It certainly hasn't in Florida, according to a new poll today from PPP. But that's just one data point. We'll need many more to get a clearer picture.
