This week in science: chasing dreams and nightmares

The crew is off to Netroots Nation this weekend leaving me with the keys to to the fornt page. And I hereby decree, what we need more of in politics is science!

• NASA scientists host a bake sale to raise awareness while the agency has to cut a planned orbital observatory.
• One record warm spring in the US does not a catastrophe make. But a few organism might fare better, even as a new study suggests we are rushing headlong to an irreverisble tipping point and millions of people alive now will live to see it.
• The shuttle may be gone, but the dream goes on in the form of the Dream Chaser.
