Romney, who supported the Wall Street bailout, tried to perform a bit of damage control by saying it was "very strange" to accuse him of wanting to put firefighters, cops, and teachers out of work, but that's exactly what he said he wanted on Friday. Moreover, immediately after saying it was "completely absurd" to suggest he supports more layoffs, he slammed Obama's plan to prevent layoffs.
According to to Romney, the federal government doesn't give state and local governments any funding to support teachers, firefighters, or cops, a claim that is obviously false, but even if it were true, it wouldn't be a defense of his position. The situation we currently face is one in which state and local governments don't have enough money to pay their employees. As a result, the public sector is bleeding jobs, and that is bringing the entire economy down.
Federal aid'which Romney derisively calls a "bail out"'would prevent those layoffs and start putting people back to work, yet Romney says no. And by doubling down on his opposition to President Obama plan to deliver that Federal aid'a plan which is overwhelmingly popular'Mitt Romney is confirming for everyone to see that he is the real job-killer in this race.
