Under California's new primary system, the top two finishers in a primary from any party advance to the general election. [Orly] Taitz, running to challenge Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D), was in sixth place with over 60,000 votes just after midnight, with 14 percent of precincts reporting. (Update: with 99 percent of precincts reporting, Taitz was in fifth place with over 113,000 votes.) [...]There are over 100,000 people in my home state, California, who thought "Yes. Orly Taitz, who is famous only as a notorious pusher of the birther conspiracy theory. Now there is a person who I would to have as my senator."Taitz is best known for beating the 'birther' drum ' she's compared herself to Nelson Mandela and claimed Obama's long-form birth certificate wasn't legitimate because it should have said 'Negro' ' but she's made presidential eligibility a relatively minor part of her platform (it comes it at No. 12, after rolling back the EPA and holding government officials accountable for the Solyndra and Fast and Furious scandals).
Now, it's possible that 100,000 people actually voted for Orly Taitz as a prank. In fact, the only people I know who even considered voting for Taitz were contemplating it as a prank, so it's perhaps even likely that those people might well have far outstripped non-ironic Orly Taitz voters. Or perhaps there are 100,000 voters who agree she is a total and utter crackpot, when it comes to Obama conspiracy theories, but admire her opinions on gutting the EPA. I am so far not aware of any exit polling that asked the question, "Are you voting for the person you voted for because you actually think they would be the best for the job, or are you merely trying to fuck with us?"
That is a shame, because it's a poll I'd really like to see done more often (Donald Trump's campaign, cough). For now, it might be better for all of us to believe whatever we choose to believe on the subject.
