Tue Jun 05, 2012 at 11:05 PM PT (jeffmd): Some good news: According to the Racine Journal Times, ex-state Sen. John Lehman (D) is up to a 550-vote lead over incumbent Sen. Van Wanggaard (R). If this holds, the Dems would regain the majority in the Wisconsin Senate.
Tue Jun 05, 2012 at 11:08 PM PT (jeffmd): The Journal Times is now showing a 900-vote Lehman lead with just one precinct outstanding.
Tue Jun 05, 2012 at 11:11 PM PT (Steve Singiser): Don't tell me that money doesn't talk'in California, the tobacco lobby may have successfully turned back an attempt to raise the tax on cigarettes by a buck a pack. It is still passing, but what was a lead of about 30,000 votes earlier is down to just 8000 votes. Out of 2.6 million cast. Can't get much closer than that, and if the measure fails, the $40 million dropped in the state on negative ads will have been money well spent by the industry.
Tue Jun 05, 2012 at 11:17 PM PT: In SD-21, John Lehmann has declared victory and the DLCC has put out a statement congratulating him. This victory gives Democrats control of the state Senate in Wisconsin.
Tue Jun 05, 2012 at 11:20 PM PT (James L): Over in NM-01, with 100% reporting, Michelle Lujan Grisham has defeated Eric Griego for the Democratic nomination to succeed Martin Heinrich in the House. The final margin: 40-35, with Marty Chavez way behind at 24.
Tue Jun 05, 2012 at 11:25 PM PT (Steve Singiser): While reclaiming the Wisconsin state Senate is satisfying, California voters have apparently denied us our Orly Taitz fix in November. Alas, AP now projects that Republican businesswoman Elizabeth Emken will join Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein this November in the general election. Also, Kim Vann was confirmed as Rep. John Garamendi's November opponent in CA-03.
Tue Jun 05, 2012 at 11:32 PM PT (Steve Singiser): One race that just refuses to shake itself out is the battle for the right to face Rep. Brian Bilbray (R) in CA-52. Democrat Scott Peters still holds the second slot, but by less than 500 votes over Lori Saldana.
Tue Jun 05, 2012 at 11:42 PM PT (Steve Singiser): This is getting comical'with 2.9 million votes cast, California's Proposition 29 (the tobacco tax) is still passing. By 658 votes.
Tue Jun 05, 2012 at 11:45 PM PT (Steve Singiser): In the newly-created (and blue-tinted) seat along the Long Beach-OC border (CA-47), we have our two contenders for November. Democrat Alan Lowenthal and Republican Gary DeLong move on from the primary. Former one-term Rep. Steve Kuykendall (R) was a distant third, with 11 percent of the vote.
Tue Jun 05, 2012 at 11:51 PM PT (Steve Singiser): At long last, the final uncalled race outside of the Golden State has been put to bed. AP calls the Democratic primary in MT-AL for Kim Gillan, who won in a seven-candidate field with 31 percent of the vote.
Tue Jun 05, 2012 at 11:54 PM PT (Steve Singiser): Great news for smokers'the tobacco lobby has moved into the lead for the first time tonight. For the first time tonight, Proposition 29 in California is failing by about 6000 votes.
