Romney to endorse stimulus?

Remember back in 2009 when Mitt Romney supported more government spending and stimulus? I know this is sort of a ridiculous question, but I'm wondering whether Mitt Romney is planning to endorse President Obama's stimulus bill later today in Ames, Iowa. Here's why: Romney is scheduled to give a speech in Ames, Iowa and his aides are billing it as his closing economic argument. The location of his speech? Kinzler Construction Services. And as it turns out, Kinzler received nearly $700,000 in stimulus contracts.

Now, I know it would be quite strange for Romney to suddenly endorse stimulus spending. It would require him to abandon everything he's said during this campaign about President Obama's economic policy. But after what we saw during the debates, Mitt Romney doesn't have anything against changing his position on a dime if he thinks it will score him some votes. Heck, he's even happy to take two different positions at the very same time. All that matters to him is saying whatever he needs to say to win whatever votes he needs to win.

And let's not forget, this is the same Mitt Romney who in 2009 actually supported a stimulus and said the government needed to increase spending. So if he did endorse stimulus spending, he'd actually be supporting it after he opposing it after supporting it. (Phew, that was a mouthful.)

Of course, it's also possible that Romney won't endorse the stimulus and that he just has a lousy advance team that decided he should give his speech at a business that got a boost from the president's economic policies. Or, maybe it's all above. In the end, who can really say? After all, this is Mitt Romney. Nobody knows what he really believes.
