Republicans' poster boy for deadbeat dads very concerned about voter fraud

Rep. Joe "Mr. Integrity" Walsh (R-Deadbeat) This is rich. Look who is all of a sudden concerned with integrity.

WASHINGTON- Today Congressman Joe Walsh (IL-8) introduced the Federal Elections Integrity Act, which requires voters to present a government-issued photo ID to vote in federal elections. Currently Illinois and 33 other states do not require a photo ID on Election Day.

'Current federal law requires those voting in federal elections to be American citizens,' said Walsh. "This long overdue bill simply enforces that requirement and will be a huge step towards combating voter fraud in this country. [...] Voter fraud in this country is a real issue. We have seen plenty of examples of people lying about who they are, and convicted felons, dead people, and illegal immigrants voting. This bill is just common sense. The American people understand that it makes no sense that a photo ID is required to get a library card or board an airplane, but not required to do something as sacred as voting."

Of course, what Walsh doesn't tell you is that most of the examples he's talking about are stunts in which Republican operatives like James O'Keefe and the family members of staffers for Republican Senate candidates commit voter fraud to prove that it exists.

But it's such a refreshing change for Walsh, whose nodding acquaintance with the truth, general loutishness and personal failings tend to give the impression that integrity isn't so high up on his list of things to protect that he'd actually use the word in a piece of legislation.

Too bad he's perverting the word by promoting the big lie that voter fraud is actually a problem in the U.S. But leopards can't change their spots, and Walsh is incapable of being a stand-up guy. Like all normal Republicans.
