Whither Nancy Pelosi?

REUTERS/Esam Al-Fetori (EGYPT - Tags: POLITICS) Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi With all the position shuffling occurring and pending in D.C., there's a great deal of speculation about what Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi is going to decide to do in the new Congress, and whether she'll continue as leader. One leadership member close to her, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, says she "would be shocked if [Pelosi] left."
'Nancy Pelosi is someone who absolutely loves to be part of the architecture of big major decisions, the big issues.'

With fiscal cliff negotiations coming up, she said it would be surprising if Pelosi chose to leave her high-profile seat. Wasserman Schultz continued, saying, 'Plus, you know, we had a successful election and we've got a job to finish. So just knowing her, that's my gut feeling.'

Progressives need Pelosi at that negotiating table rather than her heir apparent, the Blue Dog-leaning Steny Hoyer. She's meeting with caucus leadership on Tuesday, and with the full caucus on Wednesday, when we might learn more about her plans. But at this point, it looks like she's staying put.

Pelosi says she will hold 10 am news conference on Wednesday morning about her future as House Minority Leader
