Thanks for the memories

Mitt Romney enters the White House through side entrance for a one hour and 13-minute lunch with President Barack Obama Mitt Romney spent the last decade of his life pursuing his dream of eight years in the White House. Alas, he came up short. But today he got a consolation prize: 73 minutes inside the building having lunch with the guy who beat him on Nov. 6. And now, as CNN put it, "Mitt Romney's time at the White House has ended."

We haven't yet seen any photos including both President Obama and Gov. Romney, but if and when they come out, there's no doubt they'll be a bit awkward. Speaking of which, here's an excellent gallery of photos of the awkward encounters been presidential victors and their vanquished opponents. Enjoy!

12:22 PM PT: The White House readout of the lunch:

This afternoon, President Obama and Governor Romney visited for an hour over lunch in the Private Dining Room adjacent to the Oval Office. Governor Romney congratulated the President for the success of his campaign and wished him well over the coming four years. The focus of their discussion was on America's leadership in the world and the importance of maintaining that leadership position in the future. They pledged to stay in touch, particularly if opportunities to work together on shared interests arise in the future. Their lunch menu included white turkey chili and Southwestern grilled chicken salad.

12:27 PM PT: And here's a photo from the White House of the two men inside The Oval Office:
