Romney begs for mercy: Please stop the Bain and tax attacks! It hurts!

Maggie Haberman sums up Mitt Romney's plea to the Obama campaign in three words: "Stop hitting me."

ROMNEY: I can assure you, our campaign would be helped immensely if we had an agreement between both campaigns where we're only going to talk about issues and that attacks based upon business, or family, or taxes, or things of that nature,  that this is just a diversion.

CHUCK TODD: So, are you going to throw out a pledge or something?

ROMNEY: I would love to have that.

Todd then asked Romney what the details of such a pledge would be. True to form, Romney sort of backed off.
ROMNEY: I don't have a pledge that I can present to you, but I think it would be extraordinarily helpful if both campaigns focused on issues.

TODD: And figured out a way to come up with an agreement?

ROMNEY: Well, that's never happened in politics.

Obviously, Romney's feeling the heat, but the attacks he's facing are nothing compared to the crap President Obama has had to deal with. So no sympathy for Mitt. Politics ain't for the weak of heart.

And isn't it amazing to hear him beg the Obama campaign to stop talking about his business record? It wasn't long ago that he said his business record was the thing that qualified him for the White House. When he wrapped up the nomination, he didn't even mention he had been governor of Massachusetts! Business and the Olympics were the only things he mentioned. But now he's crying uncle.

That being said, maybe there is room for a deal here. If Mitt Romney will agree to release his tax returns for the same years that President Obama has released his tax returns, then Democrats should agree to stop attacking Romney for hiding his tax returns. Sounds like a fair deal to you, right? Yeah? I thought so. How about it, Mitt?

1:15 PM PT: Oh, and notice that Romney didn't mention anything about taking a pledge to stop making up shit about President Obama's policies. Just sayin'...
