McCain, Graham again vow to hold up Brennan nomination

Now let's say we want documents about the War of 1812. It'll be hilarious. Yep, we're doing this thing. Yet again:

Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. will not move forward President Obama's nominee to head the CIA until they receive additional documents detailing the White House's handling of the Sept. 11 attack on a U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, the pair said today on "Face the Nation."

"John and I are hell-bent on making sure the American people understand this debacle called Benghazi," Graham said, vowing to "stop" John Brennan's confirmation until further information is released about the attack that left four Americans dead. A Tuesday vote is currently scheduled in the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Well, of course they are. Heaven forbid any work at all get done in the Senate, and if McCain and Graham can once again make a show of holding something up a few days or weeks based on still-vague theories about something something Susan Rice something, there's no downside there.

I'm trying to think of who, in the last administration, suffered as much actual political retribution for "questions" surrounding the 9/11 terrorist attacks as Susan Rice did for answering questions a certain way on a Sunday punditry show. Susan Rice had to withdraw from even being considered for secretary of state over the latter; remembering back, does that count as a more substantive career blow than Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and the rest of the "no one could have foreseen" crowd ever faced? McCain could perhaps instead be spending some quality time giving a damn about an actual, ongoing drone program, which seems a fine thing to be asking Brennan about, but ' nope. Benghazi, that's what we're going with.

As for the why of it, I'm still going with "shameless camera whores" on this one. This new McCain-Graham pairing seems to exist in order to find things to be outraged about, then loudly do little of consequence about them. Nice gig for the Sunday shows, and nice reason for delay of anything, and everything, that anyone else in Washington might want to do.
