Rand Paul knows how to warm a conservative's heart: Propose abolishing the Department of Education

Speaking Thursday afternoon at the Conservative Political Action Conference, Rand Paul showed that he knows exactly how to win over fickle conservatives:

This month I will propose a five year balanced budget.

My budget eliminates the Department of Education. (10+ seconds of ecstatic applause.)

Yup. Rand Paul said it was time to nuke the Department of Education and the crowd went nuts.

They gave him more than 10 seconds lusty applause for saying he wants to get rid of the Department of Education. Not reform it, not change it, but make it disappear entirely. And they just loved it.

Because as every person who believes humans and dinosaurs coexisted knows, the last thing America needs is a federal commitment to making sure our nation is good at learning things.
