Abbreviated Pundit Round-up: Winners and losers

CNN exit polls Study the above chart. It is pretty amazing.

A word of praise for political scientists, who said debates don't swing elections, got mocked by jerks like me, but were 100% right.

Reuters:

President Barack Obama rolled to re-election and a second term in the White House on Tuesday, television networks projected, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and overcoming deep doubts about his handling of the U.S. economy.
Thank the Latino vote, the African-American vote and the youth vote. They all showed.
Culture wars have totally flipped: marijuana and same sex marriage winning ballot initiatives.

National Journal:

How Obama Won

Presiding over a slack economy, Obama made the election a pass-fail test on Romney's character.

Dear pundits: the Bain ads worked. And so did that 47% tape.

Brilliant polling analysts like @MichaelBarone and @JayCostTWS now join Dick "Landslide" Morris in discredited hacks' hall of fame.

The American Conservative:

If Romney loses tonight, there are going to be a lot of shocked Republicans and conservatives. If you're a reader of the Greek New Testament (and who isn't?) the appropriate word is 'skandalon.' Such a result will be a 'scandal' or a 'stumbling block' to your friends who were sure that good Ohioans would vote for Mitt Romney and that this Nate Silver guy at the New York Times was cooking the books on the polls, along with the rest of the media.

Conservatives will say, with some good reason, that unemployment is unacceptably high. Obama didn't bring hope or change. And there is no way all those flaky college kids and minority voters could be excited enough to show up to the polls this year. So how did this happen?

Another big winner: The Dodd-Frank financial reforms. And Sen.-elect Elizabeth Warren will make sure.

Ladies and gents, let me present the definition of a graceless clown:

This election is a total sham and a travesty. We are not a democracy!

Then again, there were a lot of really dumb conservatives buying into this unskewed bullshit. No, you can't have your own math and science. It doesn't work that way.

Nate Silver (remember him?):

Some networks have called the Electoral College for Barack Obama, but it will take longer before the popular vote can officially be called.

That's because the three Pacific Coast states ' California, Oregon and Washington ' conduct much of their voting by mail, yielding a lag of several days to a week before all ballots are counted.

As of 11:45 p.m., however, Mr. Obama trailed Mitt Romney by only about 150,000 votes nationally, a margin he should be able to make up on the West Coast.

Um... the polls were right.
Poll-truther delusion watch: not final, but exit polls at this point show electorate was +6 D on party ID, just a tick below '08 level.

Ron Fournier collects Republican and Democratic advice for Obama.

NY Times:

Now that the electoral tide has turned against Mitt Romney, the crowd here at the campaign's election night party has turned against CNN.

Every time the network is turned on, audience members at the Boston Convention Center chant for a change of channel. 'Fox! Fox! Fox!' they yell.

Um... guys. Only listening to Fox News is how you got into this mess.
Exactly @drewlinzer's prediction RT @FixAaron: Obama looks like he will win the Electoral College (if he wins Florida) 332-206.
' @dylanmatt via Echofon The only person who had a better night than Obama is Nate Silver.

Harry Enten:
How the pollsters won the 2012 US election, mostly

It was a good night for most polling organisations; aggregators got it close to perfect. For the 'unskewed' crowd, not so much
