Your morning schadenfreude

Last Tuesday, President Obama didn't just win, he became just the second of the last ten presidents to win a majority in two presidential elections (Reagan was the other). Senate Democrats expanded their majority and House Democrats gained seats. That was a pretty good day for our side, and aside from the satisfaction of having the good guys win, we also get to enjoy the spectacle of Republicans squabbling amongst themselves. For example:

On the night of Nov. 6, shortly after President Barack Obama won reelection, Steve Schmidt went on NBC News and called on GOP leaders to 'stand up' against the extreme elements in the party that the Republican strategist believes are leading it down the wrong path, even singling out Limbaugh by name. Days later on MSNBC, Joe Scarborough criticized Republicans for taking cues from unnamed pundits 'who make tens of millions of dollars engaging in niche marketing' that the host complained provides a misleading picture of the nation's electorate. Columnist David Frum last week slammed the 'conservative entertainment complex' that had 'fleeced, exploited and lied to' Republicans, ensuing doom on Election Day.

This is hilarious on so many levels, starting with the fact that each one of these guys is a part of the conservative media complex that he is criticizing'Schmidt and Scarborough with MSNBC, Frum with whatever network will put him on air. And even though they may have some valid criticisms, their track records hardly suggest that they are entitled to deliver it.

Don't forget, Schmidt is the guy who picked Sarah Palin for John McCain. Frum is the guy who coined "axis of evil" for George W. Bush. And as far as political analysis goes, Joe Scarborough openly mocked Nate Silver for saying that President Obama was a heavy favorite to win reelection.

And the most hilarious thing here is that despite all that, these guys really probably are among the savviest Republicans on the scene today. Don't get me wrong though: there's a difference between being savvier than Rush Limbaugh and actually being savvy. But at least these guys realize they got kicked in the behind.
