Did you hear the one about Obama's Muslim ring?

So this morning, I see this tweet for a Family Research Council crazy:

Pres. Obama, who wears a ring that says "No god but Allah," wins the Muslim vote 85-4. Get used to it. http://t.co/...
' @BryanJFischer via web

You might've missed this conspiracy theory, and it's particularly funny. You see, James Jerome Corsi, he of the Swiftboat Veterans for the Truth and birther extraordinaire, has discovered a SHOCKING SECRET!

Now, newly published photographs of Obama from the 1980s show that the ring Obama wore on his wedding-ring finger as an unmarried student is the same ring Michelle Robinson put on his finger at the couple's wedding ceremony in 1992.

Moreover, according to Arabic-language and Islamic experts, the ring Obama has been wearing for more than 30 years is adorned with the first part of the Islamic declaration of faith, the Shahada: 'There is no god except Allah.'

Gasp! What's the evidence? He takes a few grainy photos of the ring, like this one:
President Barack Obama closeup of his face and hands, with gold ring. And then traces the squiggles in the ring, which supposedly spells out "There is no god except Allah" in Arabic:
Crazy World Net Daily image pretending to show Muslim script superimposed over Obama ring. Now you might be saying to yourself, "that Arabic script looks nothing like the squiggles Corsi traced on the ring", but that's because you're not bat shit insane. Let's examine the squiggles and the Arabic script side-by-side:
How idiotic is this? Look at the first letters of each row:
Both rows lead with the same Arabic letter, but the Corsi squiggles couldn't be any more different. At this point, Corsi should've given up this effort, but no, he's like the guy from A Beautiful Mind, seeing wisdom and patterns were none exists.

Of course, this debunking was completely unnecessary, just some easy fun on a lazy Saturday morning. Because the real evidence against this ridiculous nonsense is actually a high-def picture of the ring:

President Barack Obama ring. The alleged Arabic script is just a basic loop pattern that has been worn down from decades of use. But when the "evidence" used to power this conspiracy theory is so ridiculous to begin with, it's obvious that no amount of reality will get in the way.

Not that any of us are surprised. We just saw conservatives construct an alternate reality so powerful, that even those at the top of their party bought into it. And as the tweet at the top of this post proves, the crazies haven't learned their lesson.
