Durbin: Maybe we should look at that filibuster thing again

Sen. Dick Durbin Yes, Sen. Durbin. It's time. Following Wednesday's filibuster of D.C. Circuit nominee Caitlin Halligan, one member of the Senate Democratic leadership team is thinking about reopening filibuster reform. Here's Sen. Dick Durbin, majority whip:
'We have tried at the beginning of this Senate session to avoid this kind of filibuster confrontation. The last several years we have had over 400 filibusters'a record number of filibusters in the Senate,' Durbin said.

'I hate to suggest this, but if this is an indication of where we're headed, we need to revisit the rules again,' the Illinois Democrat said. 'We need to go back to it again. I'm sorry to say it because I ' was hopeful that a bipartisan approach to dealing with these issues would work. [...] But if this Caitlin Halligan nomination is an indication of things to come, we've got to revisit the rules.'

The Hagel filibuster combined with this have made Durbin reconsider whether or not the Republicans really meant it when they said they'd go along with the reform. In a profound understatement, he says, "I don't think our spirit of bipartisanship has shown much in terms of results.' Ya think?

Now's the time. Please sign our petition urging Harry Reid to re-open the process of filibuster reform in the Senate.
