Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer convinced sequester is a plot against Arizona

Jan Brewer has issues. Why on earth would federal immigrations officials release detained undocumented immigrants in preparation for their budget being slashed by the sequester? It can't possibly be to comply with the budget cuts, since everybody knows imprisoning people is basically free, what with modern couponing and whatnot. No, it must be because of a plot against Arizona by the federal government, just like presumably everything else.

'Well, you know, I personally believe it could be payback,' [Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer] said. 'It could be to punish Arizona, to make them squirm. They're pushing back on what we're pushing on because we want our border secure and we're strong about it.'

Asked whether Washington was 'picking on you,' she replied: 'I think it's pretty obvious that they're doing everything in their power.'

We've been hearing the same thing about pretty much every sequester cut being made or planned. From aircraft carrier deployments to regional airport closures, we're told that it's all just a plot against Republicans, because clearly it ought to be possible to cut $85 billion from the federal budget overnight without affecting any services, anywhere. Again, it seems to be more evidence that Republicans have absolutely no ability to comprehend this whole governing thing.

For his part, crackpot Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio is equally convinced it's all a plot, and has offered to house the 300ish detainees released in Arizona in his own little desert tent city, for free. His big concern is that some of the 300 (oh, heavens, 300 undocumented immigrants in Arizona? However will they cope?) will, yes, leave:

"[W]hen you say, 'We're going to have these people report back to a court' ' do you think they're going to come back? No. They're heading south or to another state," he said.

Yes, that's Sheriff Joe, pissed off because undocumented immigrants might leave his state as a result of all this. Arizona, you seriously need to check the water supply, there is something in there.
