Either Scott Brown's truck broke down or he's a liar

Scott Brown in his pickup, giving a thumbs up. The offer of a lift to the debate was apparently time-limited. Last week and early this week, Scott Brown was full of some very tough talk about how intent he was on debating Elizabeth Warren one last time, storm or no storm.
On Monday morning, however, Brown said the debate would happen on Tuesday, if appropriate, ''or the next day or the next day.''

''Certainly, we're going to do it,'' Brown told reporters. ''I think the people will want to hear where we stand on all the final issues ... before the election.''

At a news conference Friday, Brown was equally emphatic, saying he would have no problem attending a final debate, even in inclement weather.

''That's why I have a truck: It has four-wheel drive,'' Brown said Friday. ''If she needs a ride, happy to pick her up. I'll be there providing the electricity is on.''

The truck! Don't forget everybody, Scott Brown drives a truck, with four-wheel drive. Cuz he's a tough guy. Not afraid of meetin' the professor in any old debate.

Except for this last one. In fact, Brown jumped the gun and pulled out of Tuesday's debate Monday afternoon, even before the debate sponsors were able to evaluate the situation and determine what they should do.

Goal Thermometer

And now that the debate sponsors and Elizabeth Warren are all prepared to reschedule, Brown is totally unavailable. He's got this bus tour, see, which has been scheduled for just ages and ages, that's the most important thing of the campaign. Except that he forgot all about it on Monday when he said he could debate on maybe Wednesday or Thursday.

Long and short of it, Scott Brown tried to get out of the first debate and finally succeeded in ditching this one. There's no way he's going to put himself up on stage with Warren in front of a state and national TV audience to lose again.
