Two GOP House members spring to Bob Woodward's defense

Rep. Buck McKeon (R-CA) Most of the people paying attention to the saga of the alleged threats made to Bob Woodward by White House adviser Gene Sperling are rolling their eyes at the idea that Sperling's email is in any way out of the ordinary. But to two Republican congressmen, this does look like a threat:

But I do truly believe you should rethink your comment about saying saying that Potus asking for revenues is moving the goal post. I know you may not believe this, but as a friend, I think you will regret staking out that claim.

California Rep. Buck McKeon and Virginia Rep. Randy Forbes think this is an outrage. According to McKeon, Woodward was "crucified, vilified." Maybe he thinks sinister forces at the White House hypnotized Woodward into wildly exaggerating the pressure he faced from the administration, as a trap to then crucify him on the cross of the actual email Sperling wrote?

Both McKeon and Forbes use Woodward to lead into what look suspiciously like talking points for somewhat related things they're interested in talking about, so what's going on here is likely that inserting themselves into a story drawing lots of attention from the Beltway press is a good way to get quoted. But that still leaves us with two Republican members of Congress thinking that latching themselves to Woodward's plaint is a winning strategy. Which, wow.
