Republicans working hard to alienate remaining supporters

One of the few things Republicans did right in 2012 was muddy the waters on Medicare so much, that (per exit polls) 44 percent of voters actually thought Mitt Romney would do a better job on Medicare than the president. That question should never have been that close, especially with Rep. Paul Ryan on the ticket.

But with Republicans now making a mockery of their claims of defending Medicare in 2012 and talking cuts again, Democrats have a renewed opportunity to take the offensive on the issue and cut into senior support for the GOP. That means they must stand strong against any efforts to weaken our social net.

For a party that has lost so many Americans already, you'd think Republicans would work on delivering some "gifts" to their most loyal cohort, elderly Americans. But if their goal is to alienate pretty much everyone except white southern males, then they're doing a great job of it. Now it's up to Democrats to make them pay.
