Richard Trumka's searing 2008 message on racism and Obama is still true today

As the 2008 election approached, this was the message that Richard Trumka, then the secretary-treasurer of the AFL-CIO, brought to union members across the country. A lot has changed: Barack Obama is president, his opponent is Mitt Romney rather than John McCain, and 2010 showed us clearly how important it was to keep fighting, that a win in 2008 was not enough to keep the tide turned in our favor. And we've seen'often painfully'that electing a black president doesn't mean racism is eliminated and in fact in some cases brings racism more in the open. But despite what we've seen in the four years since Trumka first delivered this speech, the core of the message remains the same.
