That "legitimate-rape" fellow Todd Akin in Missouri is both. He's already got a House seat, from the state's 2nd District, and is seeking an upgrade by taking Sen. Claire McCaskill's seat. The Republican Party establishment didn't want him, fought to make him give it up, but now it's stuck with him. His latest foray into the weeds were his comments calling McCaskill a "wildcat" who behaved in an "unladylike" fashion in a debate. Just how bad is Akin?
"This is someone who kind of makes Michele Bachmann look like a hippie," McCaskill said of Akin, citing his votes against things like a sex offender registry.Whoa. The image of Bachmann in beads and a granny-dress smelling of patchouli and "herb," is disturbing. But not nearly as disturbing as having another authoritarian mucking around in our bedrooms, denying climate change and pushing the most extreme aspects of the ultra-right-wing agenda that the likes of Richard Viguerie have worked for 40 years to make a priority in Congress.
While establishment Republicans hoped Akin would vanish because of the brazenness of his remarks'even though he said what many of them wished they could say'Viguerie, who has said he will never consider Mitt Romney a conservative, endorsed Akin. Pretty soon, Jim DeMint was in his corner. As of Thursday, the National Republican Senatorial Committee had endorsed him. Soon, most Republicans who said Akin should bail will be doing their part to help him beat McCaskill.
Let's show Todd Akin and the rest of his party just how unwanted they are. Please give $3 to each of our Daily Kos-endorsed women candidates for the House and Senate so they can go to Congress and make life for Republicans a major pain in the you-know-where.
