Scott Brown denies making offensive remark he made in debate

Scott Brown speaking at rally. Careful, Sen. Brown. Your character is showing. In last week's Massachusetts Senate debate, Sen. Scott Brown made a particularly insensitive remark about Elizabeth Warren: "Professor Warren claimed that she was a Native American, a person of color, and as you can see, she's not." That remark has new resonance following the racist actions by some of Brown's senior staff members.

At a press conference Tuesday, Brown was asked if he had special Native American ethnicity detecting abilities, since he suggested in the debate that just by looking at Warren, he could tell she's not Native American. Brown gave a long-winded, running around response, culminating in a flat denial that he made the statement in the debate that he made, in front of a live audience and recorded for posterity.

Goal Thermometer

REPORTER: ... the debate that, "As you can see," she's not Indian. Can you tell by looking at someone what their ethnicity is? What's your feeling on that?

BROWN: [Avoids the question, talks about Warren's character, integrity, blah, blah, blah....]

REPORTER: But you're suggesting you can tell by somebody's'

BROWN: I never made that suggestion at all.

So what was that you were saying about character and integrity, Sen. Brown?
