Remember how Obama was losing Catholics and Jewish voters?

No problems. Every election cycle, Republicans convince themselves that this is the year that Jewish voters will finally vote for them. They say to themselves, Pres. Barack Obama doesn't want to nuke Iraq/Syria/Iran, hence Jewish voters will have to rally around our warmonger!

And just like every other year, Republicans are finding out that American Jewish voters don't blindly follow Bibi Netenyahu's lead. From the American Jewish Council's latest poll of Jewish voters:

Mitt Romney    24.1%
Barack Obama    64.9%
Undecided    9.9%

Back in March, a poll by the same outfit had Obama beating Romney among Jewish voters 61-28, meaning an 8-point swing toward Team Blue.

It's hard to compare two different polling operations, but at this same point four years ago, Gallup had Obama beating John McCain 69-25 among Jewish voters, and 74-22 in the final weeks of the campaign. The final margin in 2008 was Obama 78, McCain 21. Thus that AJC poll shows that Jewish attitudes are well inline what we saw in 2008'that is, another drubbing of the Republican ticket by this demographic.

Meanwhile, Republicans thought they had the Catholic vote when they got the Catholic bishops to throw their lot in with the GOP over the contraception mandate. Somehow, Republicans thought that bleating on and on about the "religious freedom" of denying women contraception would be a big winner in that community. The reality, according to Pew's latest polling:

That's Obama 54, Romney 39'a whopping 15-point lead with this group. In 2008? It was Obama 54, McCain 45, meaning that Obama has actually increased his support with this group this year. So the more the bishops push the GOP, the more Catholics opt Democratic. Amazing, huh?

In defense of Republicans, they're losing support among all groups given how shitty their candidate is. But their dreams of locking down Jewish and Catholic support will have to wait at least one more cycle. Then, in 2016, Lucy can pull that football away from them again.
