State of the Union 2013: #4

President Obama delivers 2011 State of the Union (Photo: Jim Young, Reuters) Watch it online or on TV. Talk about it here.

6:31 PM PT: Now we're entering the portion of the speech where the president will outline the types of investments he wants to see Congress make to create jobs.

6:31 PM PT: As I said earlier, the president has definitely got his swagger back. Great to see.

6:33 PM PT: Is it me or is this not one of POTUS's better efforts? Lackluster response from even Dem's side. #SOTU
— @KarlRove via HootSuite Yes, Karl. It's just you, you nitwit.

6:34 PM PT: How it's playing in one Ohio TV station's Twitter feed:

President Obama presses for jobs without raising deficit during State of the Union http://t.co/... #sotu

6:35 PM PT: Woooo! Climate change is a topic in the SOTU.

6:36 PM PT: John McCain probably isn't happy to be reminded that he once believed in climate change.

6:38 PM PT: Republicans, if honest, should like this speech more than Obama's inaugural. It is not an overtly partisan or combative speech.
— @NKingofDC via web Well, yeah, but that's a big if. Plus, they hate speeches that are firmly grounded in reality and a coherent world view, which is exactly what this speech is.

6:39 PM PT: Haha, even Boehner laughed at this: "I know that you want these job-creating projects in your districts.  I've seen you all at the ribbon-cuttings."

6:42 PM PT: Re: Medicare:

Senior admin official tells me Obama didn't endorse means testing; that was a reference to meaures in his budget #SOTU
— @ThePlumLineGS via TweetDeck

6:43 PM PT: Pre-school for every child: "That's something we should be able to do."

6:44 PM PT: The thing I like most about this speech'even in the parts where I don't fully agree with the president'is that this is a speech about what he believes we must do to become a better, stronger nation. This isn't a speech about what he thinks he needs to do to maneuver around Congress. He's not trying to navigate the possible, he's trying to expand the universe of what's possible.

6:46 PM PT (Kaili Joy Gray): New thread here.
