Archbishop proud to hook up with hate group 'to witness to the truth about God's plan for marriage'

Charlie Butchart-Cullen, 3, and her sister Sophia Butchart-Cullen, 1, sit in a wagon at the LA Pride parade in West Hollywood, California, June 10, 2012. The parade is part of the annual Los Angeles lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender pride celebration March all you want, but equality is coming Oh, for God's sake.

The bigots, led by the National Organization for Marriage, are planning to throw yet another temper tantrum about how marriage equality violates their right to hate gay people:

On March 26th the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the Perry case, which will determine if Proposition 8 - the citizens initiative approved by the people of California in 2008 to protect marriage - is constitutional or not. More importantly, the question of same-sex "marriage" and the right of Americans to protect marriage will be decided. It is imperative that political leaders, the media, and the culture see that we care about protecting marriage enough to stand up and march for it.
Waaaaaaah. Boo hoo. The tide has turned, nine states have already legalized marriage equality, Illinois is about to be next, Oregon is collecting signatures now to put it on the 2014 ballot'but waaaaaaaah. The bigots still want to show the world that they're willing to be on the wrong side of history because they hate gay people that much.

So of course the Catholic Church wants in on that action. Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput has penned a letter expressing his support for the "March for Marriage" because it's "vital that the Church keep working to defend the integrity of marriage." Uh huh. Goal Thermometer

As Joe. My. God. notes, this is the same archdiocese where two priests have already been convicted'one, for molesting an altar boy, and the other for child endangerment because he protected the priests instead of the children'and another 37 active priests are currently under investigation. But hey, forget about all that because according to the archbishop, "every child deserves a family where the father loves the mother, and the mother loves the father." Apparently, though, the archdiocese of Philadelphia has a not-quite-as-clear policy on whether every child deserves to not get raped by a priest.

The last desperate gasps of a failed movement to uphold the sanctity of Newt Gingrich's three marriages are becoming almost comical at this point. Equality is coming, no matter how many marches NOM and the Catholic Church organize. And you can help send a message to the bigots. Donate here to make marriage equality a reality in Oregon.
