When high-capacity magazines are justified

Zombies One of the few scenarios were high-capacity magazines are warranted. Sen. Joe Manchin, NRA stalwart, stating the obvious:
"I just came with my family from deer hunting," Manchin said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "I've never had more than three shells in a clip. Sometimes you don't get more than one shot anyway at a deer. It's common sense. It's time to move beyond rhetoric. We need to sit down and have a common sense discussion and move in a reasonable way."
If you need more than a handful of bullets to go deer hunting, then you might want to work on your target practice because you really suck as a hunter. And really, the deer isn't impressed with your assault rifle.

And if you really think your AR-15 is going to hold back government tyranny, you really have no idea how effective 1) government drones and 2) tactical infantry/marine units really are. Your little play militia would get chewed up easily by government security forces.

There are, however, times when a 30-round magazine is warranted. If you're being assaulted by Mexican drug lords, for example. Or during the zombie apocalypse.

That's pretty much it, however. And really, neither is worth the lives of 20 first-graders.

This is the most basic and easiest reform that could dramatically make our country safer. No, it won't end the vast majority of gun murders, which are committed by hand guns. But it would prevent the ability of crazy assholes to get their hands on weapons of mass murder. And that matters.
