According to the Republican National Committee's latest web video, President Obama has flip-flopped on the sequester, going from full support in November 2011 to complete opposition in February 2013:
But the RNC's video completely ignores all of that. The President Obama that you see in the video threatens to veto any effort to avoid sequestration, even though he plainly said in the very next breath that he wanted to replace the sequester with a balanced deficit reduction deal including spending cuts and revenue increases. But that didn't suit the GOP message, so they simply created their own reality by splicing and dicing the video.
The strange thing about this is that anybody who knows anything about the sequester understands that President Obama hoped to use it as a tool to achieve a Grand Bargain. Whatever you think about that strategy, he's never wanted the sequester cuts to happen. Cropping the video as they did is nothing short of a flagrant lie.
Obviously, the strategy behind the video is to give Republicans cover for supporting moving forward with the sequester. They don't want to get blamed'and yet they are already losing the blame game. There are honest ways that they could have done that, but this video isn't one of them.
