The real Linda McMahon exposed

Wrestling mogul Linda McMahaon's personal fortune has been significantly depleted this election cycle, as she's worked very hard to remake her image in her ongoing run to be the next senator from Connecticut. Her favorables were in the tank during her initial, unsuccessful bid against Richard Blumenthal. She's poured her personal fortune into attack ads and mailers against Democrat Chris Murphy, and in positive ads intended to rehabilitate her own image. If the polls are any indication, it's working for her.

So the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee is jumping in with a $320,000 ad buy to help Murphy. Here's the ad, which reminds voters of who the "real Linda McMahon" is.

Connecticut voters deserve to know the real Linda McMahon. McMahon laid off 10 percent of her employees'even workers in Connecticut'and didn't pay Medicare, Social Security and unemployment for her wrestlers. But Linda McMahon took home $46 million a year. Now, as a Senate candidate, she's proposing to give herself an up to $7 million tax cut. Linda McMahon takes care of herself, no matter who pays the price.
That's a good reminder to Connecticut voters as to why they overwhelmingly rejected her last time she tried to buy a Senate seat. As is this story about how brazenly dishonest and deceptive her campaign can be. She's using a tiny fragment of a quote American University lecturer and author of Why Congress Matters Ilona Nickels gave to Hearst Connecticut Newspapers in a fact check of a McMahon ad about Murphy's committee meetings attendance record. Ms. Nickels said, 'Every failure to attend can't be chalked up to, he's a lazy SOB. He doesn't want to do his work. He's a slacker. [...] Members are overtaxed.' The part McMahon used in the mailer:
CT-Sen Misleading Linda McMahon mailer Goal ThermometerNickels sent a sternly-worded email to the McMahon campaign, demanding that they "cease and desist using my words in such a blatant out of context and dishonest manner" that is harming her professional, academic reputation. To which the McMahon campaign gave a virtual raspberry, and "stood by the main message of the mailer."

Classy. McMahon's a lot like the guy at the top of her ticket. Willing to say or do or spend anything just to get elected. Connecticut's senate seat needs a serious upgrade from Lieberman. As unbelievable as it is to write these words, McMahon would be even worse.

We can't let that happen.

Please send Chris Murphy $3 on ActBlue.
