Mitt isn't even ready for a 3 PM phone call

U.S. Republican presidential candidate and former Governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney addresses supporters during his Wisconsin and Maryland primary night rally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, April 3, 2012. REUTERS/Darren Hauck Not ready for prime time. The New York Times and Washington Post both have breathless accounts of how the Romney team responded to Mitt's most recent self-inflicted wound. Here's the Times.
COSTA MESA, Calif. ' Around 4 p.m. here on Monday, an aide to Mitt Romney, Garrett Jackson, showed the candidate a grainy video that had been circulating online all afternoon. [...]

[T]here was little time. It was already 7 p.m. on the East Coast, after the evening newscasts, and Mr. Romney was scheduled to attend a major fund-raiser in Costa Mesa in a few hours.

Both reports agree in all the essential details, most tellingingly, when Romney was told about the video. This is where you see the glaringly incompetence of Mitt Romney for President, 2012, in timeline form.
  • 1:00 PM, PT: David Corn posts the blockbuster story.

  • 3:30 PM, PT: The campaign issues a wholly pathetic statement responding to the video. Screenshot of TMP story with Romney campaign response to Corn story,
  • 4:00 PM, PT: The campaign staff finally gets around to showing the candidate that the tape was tearing up the news cycle.
  • 7:00 PM, PT: Romney issues his statement, takes questions.

It took three whole hours for the campaign to inform the candidate that he had just lost the election? They were probably too busy yesterday trying to find the scapegoat to blame for their failing effort.

But then it took another another three hours for Romney to make his "ignorant, obnoxious, and counterproductive" statement that he was standing by everything he said in that quiet room about half of the country being hopeless victims.

Maybe they're learning, though. They responded faster on Libya, although in their defense they were totally full of shit on that one. At least this time they didn't shoot before they aimed. No, Mitt aimed very carefully. For his own foot.
