5:33 PM PT: Nancy Keenan, the head of NARAL Pro-Choice America, just gave a stirring speech, ending with the chant of "four more years" echoing throughout the hall.
5:36 PM PT: One thing that really strikes me about this convention is that unlike the Republican one, this convention isn't trying to pretend to be anything that it's not. This is the Democratic Party, and what it stands for. There's no scripted attempt to twist Mitt Romney's words the way the RNC tried to build a single night around "build that." It's just more genuine. And it's a lot more fun to watch.

5:48 PM PT: Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee, now an independent and formerly a Republican senator, takes the stage to make the case for independents to vote for the president. "And even though my former party has hijacked the word, there's really nothing conservative about today's Republican Party."
5:49 PM PT: Chafee said he's "conservative" in that he supports a liberty and "liberal" in that he supports the idea that government can play a positive role in the economic arena. Hmmm. Sounds like a Democrat, to me. How about it Lincoln? Drop the independent schtick and just admit you're one of us.

5:51 PM PT: Now Chafee is talking about how good education shouldn't be a privilege exclusively for the wealthy. Dude, if you keep on talking like a Democrat, you might as well be one.
5:59 PM PT (Kaili Joy Gray): New thread here.
