So this is a thing:
A Mississippi lawmaker has introduced a bill that would outlaw the creation of "human-animal hybrids" and impose fines on offenders. [']The bill defines a human-animal hybrid as embryos that contain human and non-human cells, nuclei or chromosomes; embryos that were created by fertilizing a human egg with animal sperm, or vice-versa; or a nonhuman life form "engineered" with a human brain.
The bill's sponsor, Republican William "Tracy" Arnold, says it's not about hybrids, really, but just an opportunity to lump in a bunch of other things with abortion, so why the hell not. All right, I'm paraphrasing.
"The truth of the matter is they're experimenting with some animal genes and infusion in some other countries and we just want to protect those embryos from that type of infusion and protect them. After all, they're living beings, I believe," Arnold said.
So it's basically a
Violence Against Embryos Act, which is almost the most Republican thing I can think of, except we've also added in a condemnation against making some sort of human-brained lion with bear paws, because scientists are
this close to doing that just for the flying hell of it, and they're coming for your Mississippi embryos in order to do it. Now
that's the most Republican thing I can think of. You add in some language about how every ovum has the right to carry an assault rifle, I think you've got a winner there.
