As Republicans jump on board the immigration express, they're forgetting a few tiny details

Latino child holding American flag The political world is abuzz today with the announcement of a bipartisan Senate deal on immigration reform that includes a pathway to citizenship.

But even leaving aside the questions surrounding just how this path would work, Republicans may want to tweak their party platform:

That is why we oppose any form of amnesty for those who, by intentionally violating the law, disadvantage those who have obeyed it. Granting amnesty only rewards and encourages more law breaking.
... and lighten up on their overwhelming support for walking-while-brown laws and opposition to the DREAM Act. All of which helps explain why 71 percent of Latinos voted against Mitt Romney and the Republican vision for America last year and which definitely explains why Republicans are suddenly so anxious to hop on board the immigration reform wagon.

But while we can expect to have Senate Republicans blanketing the airways in support of today's announcement (as the pundits swoon), there's still those pesky House Republicans to deal with ... and of course their brown-hating base. Stay tuned.
