House Republicans to continue spending millions hating the gays

Speaker of the House John Boehner takes his oath during the first day of the 113th Congress at the Capitol in Washington January 3, 2013.  Despite a rocky few weeks during the "fiscal cliff" fight, Boehner won re-election as speaker of the House of Representatives on Thursday and will lead Republicans as they take on the White House over federal spending. Boehner beat Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi by 220-192 in the speakership vote on the first day of a new Congress. REUTERS/Kevin Lamarque  (UNITED STATES - Tags: POLITICS) Raise your hand if you're a dick While regular Americans are getting quite used to the idea that marriage equality is actually a good thing and not a sign of the end times, Republicans in the House of Representatives are, of course, clinging to their dreams of codified bigotry:
House Republican leaders have signed on to spend up to $3 million to keep defending the Defense of Marriage Act in court, according to a copy of their newly revised legal contract obtained by The Huffington Post.
And yes, those would be 3 million taxpayer dollars Republicans are wasting on an outdated lawsuit to protect states' rights to discriminate against consenting adults who love each other at least as much as, say, Newt Gingrich loved his first wife before he dumped her for the second one before he dumped her for the third one.

And lest you think that wasting precious taxpayer dollars'you know, those same dollars we can't afford to send to disaster victims; those same dollars we can't afford to spend on food stamps for low-income families; those same dollars we can't afford to spend on basic health care'is the worst part of this story, well, sit back and enjoy this dick move:

The revised contract comes on the heels of House Republican leaders inserting language into the rules package for the 113th Congress that authorizes the House legal team to keep paying outside counsel to defend DOMA. The rules package also states that the House legal team continues to "speak for" all House members in its defense of DOMA -- language that infuriated Democrats opposed to the House's DOMA defense.
In other words, while all but one House Republican'good for you, Rep. Walter Jones of North Carolina; enjoy the primary that's surely coming your way'voted to spend yet more millions on this stupid lawsuit, that wasn't enough for them. They've forced Democrats to provide cover for them by insisting that Democrats also support this idiotic pursuit. They don't, but hey, Republicans have never let some tiny little thing like reality get in their way, and they're certainly not about to start now.
