Peter King says anyone from New York or New Jersey would be nuts to support House Republicans

Hours after House Republicans refused to pass Hurricane Sandy relief aid, Rep. Peter King (R-NY) is admitting what most people in the northeast have known for a long time: Congressional Republicans are biased against their region and any New Yorker or New Jerseyan who supports them is "out of their mind":

According to King, his colleagues had assured him the relief package would come up for a vote after the fiscal cliff bill had been dealt with. King said John Boehner personally assured him it would get a vote. "And then," King said, referring to the moments after the fiscal cliff deal had been passed, "the speaker walked off the floor, told an aide to the majority leader that the Congress was finished, that there were no votes, and they came back and told us."

King put the blame squarely on the shoulders of his House Republican colleagues and said anyone from New York or New Jersey who supported the House GOP was nuts.

"These Republicans have no problem finding New York when they're out raising millions of dollars, they come to New York all the time filling their pockets with money from New Yorkers," he said. "I'm saying right now: anyone from New York and New Jersey who contributes one penny to congressional Republicans is out of their mind because what they did last night to put a knife in the back of New Yorkers and New Jerseyans was an absolute disgrace."

King said the decision to screw New York and New Jersey was motivated by a bias against the northeast. "The Republican Party has this bias against New York, this bias against New Jersey, this bias against the Northeast," he said. "They wonder why they are becoming a minority party? Why we are becoming the party of the permanent minority? What they did last night was so immoral, so disgraceful, so irresponsible."

Without saying he'd actually quit the GOP, King said he would no longer be a loyal trooper. "As far as I'm concerned, I'm on my own," he said. "They're going to have to go a long way to get my vote on anything."
